At Carilion Labs - Knoxville and Innovative Pathology Services, we offer a wide variety of routine and specialty laboratory tests and services. Test results can be faxed, mailed, delivered by courier, or reviewed online using 4Medica (our online ordering and results system). A summary of the services we provide is listed below. Transportation

Our laboratory maintains a fleet of vehicles ready to respond to the needs of our clients. Carilion Labs - Knoxville and IPS vehicles operate daily over a 100 mile wide area professionally gathering specimens and delivering your reports or supplies in a timely manner. Moreover, our professional staff can pick up at selected locations on Saturday's.

• We offer special "rapid reaction" pick up services for "STAT or RUSH" cases.
• Our couriers maintain supplies of key material onboard their vehicles to respond to your immediate requirements.
• Finally, we know that service matters. Our transportation professionals are always courteous and professional.

Cytology

We offer the highest quality of cytology services which includes the latest technology in laboratory medicine. We offer the Cytyc ThinPrep Pap Test™. This technology has been shown to improve, in low-risk or screening populations, the detection of low-grade and more severe lesions by 65% over the conventional Pap smear. Studies have also demonstrated a reduction of more than 50% in the number of Pap slides rated as less than optimal using conventional Pap smear technology.

• Our cytotechnologists are certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and affiliated with the Southern Association of Cytotechnologists (SAC).
• Extensive experience with thin layer cytology (ThinPrep™ and SurePath™) and conventional pap smear preparation and interpretation.
• Each case is researched for a history of previous diagnoses.
• Report of all abnormal pap smears provided monthly to each physician.
• Notification of a normal pap smears result mailed directly to the patient if requested.
• Experienced with cytology specimens from all body sites, including fine needle aspiration biopsy.
• IPS cytotechnologists do all screening on-site in our local laboratory.

Histology

Carilion Labs - Knoxville Histology Laboratories provide quality histopathology services. We evaluate tissue samples and provide diagnosis of disease and disease processes. Histology services include surgical pathology, immunohistochemistry, digital imaging and postmortem examinations. We offer high quality Histopathology services with a rapid diagnostic turnaround (24-48 hours, Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays). Consultative review of difficult cases is welcomed.

• Each patient's history of previous pathology diagnoses is available at case sign out
• We utilize modern automated equipment
• Digital gross and microscopic photography is available to our clients (images can be included on patient reports)
• Our histotechnology staff has over seventy years of combined experience
• Microwave processing is available which provides same day turnaround on stat cases
• IPS has an extensive menu of immunohistochemistry and special stain panels
• We offer immunoflourescent microscopy
